If you’ve noticed an uptick in the number of your friends and co-workers currently going through divorce proceedings, there’s a good reason. According to a new report from 24/7WallSt.com, the great state of Louisiana is home to the fourth highest divorce rate in the country with an average of 20.8% per every 1000 married people choosing to dissolve their marriage.
While you might be tempted to assume populous states like Texas and New York make up the remainder of the list, that surprisingly isn’t the case. In fact, Arkansas, Nevada and Idaho round out the top three.
So, what is it about Lousiana that drives couples to split? Researchers blame a couple of factors, including a lower than average median-income and the third highest unemployment rate in the nation, which is currently hovering around 6.1%. We all know that financial problems can put stress on a relationship, so it makes some sense that residents of Lousiana are experiencing more turmoil than folks in other parts of the country.
