The divorce process is often rife with negative emotions and accusations of he-said, she-said, but even the most contentious proceedings are usually solved within a years time, allowing both parties to move on and live a (hopefully) much happier life. Sometimes, however, divorce is downright shocking. Here’s a look at three unusual cases:
The tragic tale of Emma Brady. Social media has made connecting with our friends and family members incredibly easy, but it’s also made relationships more impersonal. In 2009, Mrs. Emma Brady was looking at her Facebook newsfeed when she learned that her husband had changed his relationship status to “divorced.” Shortly thereafter, she noticed a series of comments from her husband’s new paramore congratulating him on taking the brave step of ending his marriage. Needless to say, the couple ended up divorcing.
The man who literally split his assets in half. When a marriage comes to an end, both parties are tasked with splitting up their physical property and debt. A German man took this process quite literally in 2015 when he split all of his property in two; including televisions, furniture and even a car. Can you imagine what his ex said upon watching his viral YouTube video?
Marvin Gaye’s “Here, My Dear” album. In the late 70s, American soul icon Marvin Gaye was in the midst of a brutal divorce. Facing years of alimony payments, Gaye’s lawyers drafted a clause in his divorce contract requiring Gaye to record a new album. All of the proceeds collected from the album would then be used to pay Gaye’s ex-wife. The resulting album, “Hear, My Dear” (how’s that for a tongue-in-cheek title?) was commercially unsuccessful, but it did help him finalize the divorce settlement.
